A Nashville woman has been charged with false reporting about a double homicide investigation from last year after giving misleading statements to the authorities, officials reported on Thursday. Maria Doris Urbina-Escalante, 25, is accused of originally claiming she was asleep during the time the crimes were committed on Vultee Boulevard; however, she later admitted to being awake and witnessing the tragic event, as per the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
With her revised testimony, Urbina-Escalante disclosed to detectives that she watched her boyfriend, Jose Cerros-Lopez, 41, embroiled in an argument with Franklin Bautista-Ayala, 29, and Luis Gonzalez-Barajas, 37, which rapidly escalated into the fatal shooting, the shooting that led to both men's deaths right outside of her home. Following this admission, Urbina-Escalante was released on a $10,000 bond after her arrest; her current status allows her to remain out of custody while the case proceeds.
The two firearms used by Cerros-Lopez in the October 11th shooting were found at the scene, and he now faces two counts of criminal homicide with warrants out for his arrest since last year. As law enforcement continues their search for Cerros-Lopez, they are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding his possible whereabouts; tips can be shared with Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463, and informants may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
