A fire that erupted in a New Braunfels home has led to a death investigation after a body was found inside the house. According to a City of New Braunfels report released by the New Braunfels Fire Department, firefighters responded to a call at approximately 2:30 pm last Monday at the 2600 block of McCrae. They encountered a two-story home engulfed in heavy smoke upon arrival. Efforts to control the blaze from within were hindered by intense heat and a rapidly spreading fire, which forced crews to retreat and tackle the flames from outside.
The initial absence of the residents was noted until they appeared while the fire was still being combated. After the fire was brought under control, firefighters reentered the home where they discovered the remains of 37-year-old Kennedy Miguel Herrejon —1, who had suffered a gunshot wound and burn injuries. The New Braunfels Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, alongside the Fire Department's Fire Marshal’s Office, is conducting concurrent inquiries, following findings that suggest foul play might have been involved in starting the fire. An autopsy is pending to ascertain the exact cause of death, while officials have informed the next of kin of the tragedy.
