A tragic accident at Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo last Friday has left the community mourning the loss of its beloved owner, Cindy Lewis. According to a report by WOODTV, Lewis, age 56, was struck by a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old employee of the farm in the parking lot of the business, where deputies from the Oceana County Sheriff's Office found Lewis had been trapped underneath the vehicle upon their arrival at approximately 7:45 a.m.
The employee involved in the incident, as yet unnamed in reports, was entering the parking lot when the collision occurred, an oversight that led to this grievous event; although deputies do not suspect intoxication to have been a factor, they are awaiting a review of the case by the Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, this detail of the ongoing investigation was echoed by statements from both WZZM13 and MLive, with the latter elaborating that the authorities do not believe the driver saw Lewis as she was entering the lot.
After the incident, Lewis was initially taken to a hospital in Muskegon and later airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
