In Arlington's ceaseless culinary expansion, a new player has emerged from the Flores family's repertoire, offering a splash of Mexico's vibrant flavors within the city's bounds. Officially opening its doors in June 2023, Paletería La Flor has since been scooping up interest with a selection of treats that burrow deep into the roots of Mexican dessert traditions. "We though, this would be really cool to start as a family, and it just kind of became a reality after that," said Stephanie Flores, who serves as the social media manager for the shop, as per the City of Arlington.
Drawing locals with a diverse menu that, after starting during the pandemic as a simple idea, now ranges from refreshing mangonadas to fruit waters, and from elote to nachos, the shop prides itself on using natural ingredients. Creating products with real fruit, situated at 300 W. Arkansas Lane, Ste. 110, it's a place where the pursuit of something cold or warm with fruit options finds itself satisfyingly achieved. "Everything’s made with real fruit," Flores told the City of Arlington.
La Flor carries more than layers of cooling sweetness; it's also a nod to the Flores family surname and the authenticity of their heritage. As per the City of Arlington, Stephanie Flores shared, "Growing up, we would always visit Mexico. So, it’s nice to add that little touch of Mexico here in Arlington." This connection to their cultural roots is central to the shop's ethos and its growing patronage.
Embracing the challenge of starting a new venture, the Flores family has woven their collaborative spirit into every aspect of Paletería La Flor. Beginning the enterprise, a process filled with intricate details, was not without its difficulties. "At the beginning it was very difficult, I feel like we just jumped into it," Flores admitted in the City of Arlington's interview. By intermingling familial bonds with the demands of entrepreneurship, they have crafted a space that's as much about togetherness as it is about taste.
