In a solid example of community policing, Novato's diligent residents have assisted the local police department in apprehending a theft suspect. The Novato Police Department took to Facebook to announce the arrest of Shannon Meehan, a 42-year-old individual with no permanent residence, regarding a theft at Pini Hardware.
The Novato Police posted information regarding the suspect's arrest over the weekend. A local business, Pini Hardware, had its security compromised last week. The crime was reported through the department's online system, which initiated the investigation. "An aware community member who saw the social media post called Novato Police Dispatch on the evening of Friday (7/11) to report that he spotted the Pini Hardware theft suspect at another Novato shopping center," the Novato Police Department noted. Officers located Shannon Meehan and confirmed their involvement, leading to her ultimate arrest.
Authorities have applauded Pini Hardware for utilizing the available digital avenues to report the crime, and the community for its watchful eye and responsiveness. The suspect has been slapped with several charges, including Sonoma County warrants and possession of stolen property from the hardware store, aside from the theft itself.
