The Novato Police Department recently took into custody a local high school student on multiple charges related to sextortion. A 13-year-old victim bravely came forward to report that their private photographs, stored on social media, had been illegally obtained by the suspect. In a threatening maneuver, the suspect demanded sex acts in exchange for not disseminating the compromising images. The arrest culminated in a rigorous investigation by the Novato Police, wherein search warrants were obtained, ultimately leading to the suspect's apprehension.
In response to this distressing event, the Novato Police detectives worked diligently to identify and swiftly locate the suspect, who was revealed to be a Novato high school-aged probationer. Their efforts were soon proven fruitful. A subsequent search unearthed digital evidence solidly linking the individual to the crimes.
As a consequence, the suspect was booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall, facing a litany of serious charges, including possession of child pornography, extortion, contacting a minor for sex acts, impersonating another person with intent to defraud, and a probation violation, according to the Novato Police Department.
