Following a fatal incident in Oconomowoc, authorities have taken 49-year-old Matthew L. Brennecke into custody in connection with a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of an 87-year-old man. According to WISN, Oconomowoc police confirmed Brennecke's arrest last night. The apprehension follows an extensive search for the driver suspected of striking Allan Eighmy, who was returning home on his tractor after completing lawn maintenance at Dr. Martin Luther Church.
As per details provided by FOX6, the incident occurred at the intersection of Allen Road and Orchard Circle on Monday. Eighmy was rushed to the hospital, and despite initially surviving the crash, his friends said he succumbed to injuries after suffering two strokes and deteriorating on Wednesday. Surveillance footage captured a black 2008 Volvo XC90 with significant damage on the front passenger-side, which was later linked to Brennecke, speeding away from the scene.
Charges have been brought against Brennecke, as he faces up to $50,000 in fines and/or 15 years in prison if convicted for the felony offense of hit-and-run causing great bodily harm. The criminal complaint was filed on Wednesday, just days after the incident. Additionally, a two-year driver’s license revocation is on the line for Brennecke, TMJ4 has reported. Following Eighmy's death, the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office issued an arrest warrant for Brennecke, leading to his prompt apprehension.
