Quick action by an off-duty San Francisco police officer led to the arrest of a robbery suspect in the city's Outer Mission district earlier last month. According to the San Francisco Police Department's press release, the incident occurred on the 2000 block of San Jose Avenue around 6:47 PM on June 6, where the off-duty officer took the initiative to detain the suspect after witnessing the crime.
Officers responding to the scene found the suspect, Eduardo Dias Da Silva, a 21-year-old Daly City resident, in the custody of the off-duty officer after he stole merchandise and engaged in a physical confrontation with a store employee before the officer stepped in. During the altercation, the off-duty officer identified himself, assisted the employee who had first confronted Dias Da Silva, and called for backup. When the San Francisco police arrived, they arrested Dias Da Silva without further incident.
Further investigation by the responding officers revealed that Dias Da Silva was carrying a loaded firearm, which was seized at the scene. He faces multiple charges, including robbery, conspiracy, carrying a concealed weapon, and possessing a loaded firearm that was not registered in his name, as reflected in the information provided by the police department. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Following the intervention by the off-duty officer and subsequent law enforcement efforts, Dias Da Silva was booked into San Francisco County Jail, facing various charges. The specific charges include resisting an executive officer, robbery, conspiracy, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts related to carrying a loaded firearm.
The San Francisco Police Department remains investigating the case, and authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or to utilize the Text-A-Tip service by texting TIP411, starting the message with "SFPD."
