The Franklin Police Department has named Officer Marty Carson as the new Public Affairs Officer, a move that cements Carson's 22-year commitment to community policing and engagement in Williamson County. As reported by the official Franklin government website, Carson's tenure has been characterized by a steadfast dedication to building safer and more connected neighborhoods.
In her statement, Police Chief Deb Faulkner commended Carson's record, noting, “Officer Carson has dedicated his career to serving and connecting with the people of Franklin.” Carson's selection comes on the heels of a competitive application process, and he stands out as a community figure well-known for his multiple roles within the police department. These include positions such as Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Technician, and most significantly, Community Policing Instructor.
According to a Franklin government news release, Public Information Manager Max Winitz praised Carson's deep community rapport and understanding of public engagement in modern policing. His responsibilities as Public Affairs Officer will involve extensive community interaction, including meeting with various local groups, creating public service announcements, and representing the department at community events. Such roles are designed to strengthen the department's public communication and foster transparency.
Carson expressed his commitment to his new position, saying, “This city and this department mean everything to me,” Carson said. “I’m honored to take on this new role and to continue strengthening the connection between our officers and the community we serve.” His mission aligns with the wider objectives of the Franklin Police Department to cultivate a trusting relationship with the citizens of Franklin.
Set to take over on August 4, Carson succeeds Officer Ryan Schuman, who is retiring on July 31 after 25 years. The selection of Carson underscores the department's prioritization of community service and proactive communication between law enforcement and the residents of Franklin.
