The drive to invigorate Lorain County's industrial landscape received a significant boost as Ohio lawmakers secured a hefty sum for the development of a new "Mega Site". State Senator Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and State Representative Gayle Manning (R-Avon) heralded the Ohio Controlling Board's approval of $67,412,580 from the All Ohio Future Fund, earmarked for a 1,000-acre swath of manufacturing and industrial expansion near the Lorain County Regional Airport, according to the Ohio House of Representatives news.
Dubbed as a pivotal move to address infrastructure deficiencies, notably a lack of sewer infrastructure and adequate water, the funding seeks to pave the way for business attraction and growth. Enhancing these utilities is key to the county's strategic blueprint, which itself rests on five pillars. With a focus on the regional airport, officials eye an expansion of the runway to 6500 ft, possibly redistributing some of the air traffic burdens from the likes of Cleveland Hopkins and Burke Lakefront.
"We are very excited about the economic impact this project will have, not only in Lorain County but the entire region," Senator Manning was quoted, in a statement obtained by the Ohio House of Representatives' news release. He pinpointed the potential for the 13th Senate District to reel in considerable opportunities, tagging the project as merely the "first step".
Key players backing this initiative have cast a wide net, spanning diverse segments of the county's fabric. From the Lorain County Rural Wastewater District (LORCO) to the Lorain County Sanitary Engineer, the cities of Vermilion and Avon Lake are also in lockstep. The budget infusion has further catalyzed collaboration among stakeholders, including contributions from JobsOhio and Team NEO, which has taken the helm as a critical cornerstone of the development.
