Austin police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured in north Austin, as was the city's 34th homicide of the year. According to CBS Austin, the incident occurred early Saturday morning near the 800 block of East Braker Lane.
Officers, having responded to a shots-fired call around 2 a.m., found two gunshot victims upon arrival: a male who, unfortunately, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a female who was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In a statement obtained by FOX 7 Austin, APD spokesperson Jeremy Fisher confirmed that multiple individuals were detained in connection with the shooting, although their specific roles in the incident have not yet been defined.
The identity of the deceased male victim has not been released, and details regarding the female victim's condition remain unclear. Fisher noted that officers attempted lifesaving measures on both victims before the woman's transfer to the hospital. The scene was still active, with investigators working well into the early morning, with police having said the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, according to CBS Austin.
While the investigation continues, APD believes the shooting to be an isolated incident and asserts there is no ongoing threat to the public. They are urging anyone with information regarding this crime to contact APD's Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477, as was reported by both sources.
