Yesterday afternoon at the Drew Hamilton Houses, a NYCHA complex in Harlem, gunfire broke out, leaving one man dead and a woman injured. According to ABC7NY, the shooting occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. at 2680 Frederick Douglass Blvd. The victim, 32-year-old Hamid Thomas, was fatally shot in the torso and left arm. A 40-year-old woman, believed to have been caught in the crossfire, sustained a graze wound to her lower back.
Both victims were transported to Harlem Hospital, where Thomas was pronounced dead from his injuries. The 40-year-old woman was reported to be in stable condition and is expected to recover, according to officials.
Additional details were provided by 1010 WINS, confirming the initial reports by authorities that both of the individuals were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem following the shooting. The police are canvassing the area for the suspect, described as a man dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt and black ski mask. Witnesses saw him running eastbound, toward 7th Avenue, right after the gunshots were fired.
