In a recent display of unity and support for athletes with special needs, the Orange County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina took on a significant role in the opening of the 2025 Summer Games. Joining forces with other law enforcement agencies, they formed what is known as the Circle of Honor, meant to kick off a season of hope and inclusivity. This initiative not only highlighted the athletic prowess of nearly 53,000 Special Olympics North Carolina athletes and Unified Partners but also reinforced the local law enforcement's commitment to community service.
Amid the fanfare, belonging to a wider network law enforcement officers statewide, Sheriff Charles S. Blackwood expressed his pride in dedicating resources that had a "valuable impact" on communities across the state. In his address, which was followed by athletes' personal thank yous, Sheriff Blackwood extolled the efforts of all involved. He stated, "We sincerely appreciate the support and commitment to the mission of hope and inclusion," as qouted in the department's post.
