The skies above Oregon were abuzz with patriotism this Independence Day as the Oregon Air National Guard carried out its traditional flyovers, in a display capturing not just the eye but also the spirit of onlookers.

With precision and timing, the 142nd Wing from the Portland Air National Guard Base flew their F-15 Eagle jets, while the 173rd Fighter Wing from Kingsley Field blazed through southern Oregon and northern California, according to KATU and OregonLive respectively, both wings demonstrating the might and reach of the U.S. Air Force under clear holiday skies.

Communities scattered across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington were treated to the roaring exhibition at designated times throughout the morning and early afternoon, locations ranged from Lake Oswego to Happy Valley, as per a schedule obtained by the Statesman Journal. The jets maintained a height of around 1,000 feet and speeds near the 400 mph mark, both organizations reported.

Colonel Daniel McAllister, a 142nd Wing pilot, embarked on these flyovers, and he eloquently noted to the Statesman Journal, "It’s really a unique honor to represent the Oregon Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force by flying over our local communities on our nation’s Independence Day," adding a heartfelt reminder "If nothing else, I hope we remind people at those parades and celebrations that it takes tremendous sacrifice and dedication by our military service members to ensure the freedom we all enjoy every day."

Despite the meticulous planning, the flyovers were subject to sudden changes due to weather conditions or operational contingencies, yet, spectators across the region watched the skies as anticipation turned to awe with the sight of the powerful jet fighters cutting sharp silhouettes against the day's blue expanse.
