An Orlando man has entered a guilty plea in a federal child pornography case, potentially facing a serious period behind bars. According to WFTV, 34-year-old Donald Brown admitted to one count of distribution of child sex abuse material earlier this week. The conviction could land Brown in federal prison for a term ranging from five to 20 years, with his sentencing hearing set for October 7.
In January 2023, investigators discovered that Brown had shared a video depicting child sexual abuse. According to Orlando-News, he visited a website designed to pair strangers for one-on-one chats randomly. During one such session, Brown was found to have intentionally shared the abusive content with another user. This behavior will now likely upend his life significantly, pending the outcome of the sentencing hearing.
In addition to prison time, the plea agreement stipulates that Brown forfeits the electronic devices seized during the investigation. These items, key to the case, were confiscated by Homeland Security Investigations, the agency that spearheaded the probe into Brown's online activities.
The program serves to marshal national resources in the fight to protect the most vulnerable members of society. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe said that the prosecution's efforts in cases like this one continue to be crucial in rooting out such heinous crimes.
