The Orlando Police Department found itself at the center of public scrutiny following the release of a video depicting the arrest of 22-year-old Zion Ephraim Jessiah Skepple. According to WFTV, the incident, which occurred last Friday, prompted an investigation after Skepple was detained for brandishing a firearm in a public space near L B McLeod Road.
In a detailed statement, Orlando police explained how an officer responded after receiving a call about a man waving a gun around several individuals. When the officer arrived on the scene, Skepple seemingly ignored the repeated commands to stop and subsequently appeared to be reaching for something—prompting the officer to drawn their service weapon and order Skepple to the ground. This information aligns with the account provided by WESH, which further clarifies the sequence of events, including an unsuccessful initial Taser deployment and a pursuit towards a nearby apartment.
Skepple was eventually taken into custody without further incident and found in possession of a firearm with an extended magazine and cannabis. He is facing charges for possession of cannabis and resisting an officer without violence.
