An incident unfolded on the evening of the Fourth of July in Osceola County, where a man, later identified by deputies as Mitchell Platt, 37, was shot in the leg after allegedly breaking into a home. According to ClickOrlando, deputies responded to the scene on Deer Run Road around 8:30 p.m., where they found Platt being held at gunpoint by the homeowner’s son, who had administered the gunshot wound.
After discovering a rear door ajar at his mother's home, the son entered the residence armed with a revolver. WESH reported that upon hearing noises from inside, he called out and was subsequently charged at by Platt, emerging from a hallway, which precipitated the shooting. The homeowner's son was unharmed during the altercation.
Platt, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, now faces charges including burglary of an occupied dwelling and possession of burglary tools. Past encounters with the law, including drug possession, theft, and prior burglaries, were noted in Osceola County court records.
Following his medical release, Platt was booked into jail, where he is currently being held without bond. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office, in its ongoing investigation, requests that anyone with further information about the incident call its non-emergency line.
