Earlier this morning, an accident involving a semi-trailer led to significant traffic disruptions on Florida's Turnpike in Lake County. The incident, which occurred near Mile Marker 287 close to Leesburg, forced the closure of all southbound lanes, creating substantial delays. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the semi was seen lying on its side in the grassy median, as captured by chopper footage.
The crash occurred at approximately 5 a.m., resulting in major traffic congestion in the area, with the left lane still obstructed hours later.
Further investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol shed light on the cause of the accident. As confirmed by ClickOrlando, a steering failure was to blame. A 50-year-old man from Grand Ridge, driving a 2012 Freightliner, experienced the mechanical failure that led to the semi veering off the roadway, colliding with the guardrail, and ultimately overturning.
Luckily, even though the accident was serious, no one was hurt. The truck driver got out safely after the truck flipped over.
