Firefighters from Parma's Station 5C had an unusual call to action as they responded to a household's plea for help with a furry little occupant trapped inside an HVAC vent. The crew, which included FF Doug Green, FF Jay Gunter, FF Anthony Hyatt, Lt. Matt Rushnok, and FF Ryan Sholtis, sprang into action to rescue the 3-week-old puppy ensnared in the cold air return.
It was near dinner time when the emergency call came in. Working efficiently, the firefighters quickly located the puppy. With a twist of fate, FF Ryan Sholtis' father, Bill Sholtis, working close by, had the necessary multi-tool on hand. The equipment was crucial in cutting an opening in the wall to reach the trapped animal.
According to a post on the Parma Fire Department's Facebook page, the rescue team displayed teamwork and quick thinking throughout the operation. The homeowner, relieved and grateful for the safe retrieval of the puppy, granted the firefighters the honor of naming the furry survivor.
