A tense standoff in Tarentum ended without violence as police took a man into custody after a SWAT situation yesterday. According to WTAE, the incident began around 2:30 p.m. in the 600 block of East 8th Avenue when a man reportedly fired a gun in the backyard and then barricaded himself inside his residence following an argument with his roommate.
Allegheny County Police responded to the scene, escalating the situation to a full SWAT response. The altercation drew a substantial police presence to a neighborhood unaccustomed to such an interruption in its daily life.
The standoff lasted several hours but reached a peaceful conclusion. WPXI reported that Matthew Jones, 28, was arrested after negotiations facilitated his surrender at around 5:30 p.m. Jones, who had earlier discharged a weapon from within the confines of the house, faced charges relating to the incident.
