Tragedy struck Westheimer Road last night, leading to a pedestrian fatality that has caught the attention of local authorities and the community. According to a report by the City of Houston News, the incident unfolded around 11:40 p.m. near 6400 Westheimer Road when a 25-year-old man attempted to cross the street outside of a designated pedestrian crosswalk.
The individual, whose name has yet to be disclosed pending family notification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was struck by an eastbound gray Nissan Altima. The driver of the Altima, according to the police report, stopped immediately after the collision to call 9-1-1. Unfortunately, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the responding paramedics from the Houston Fire Department.
The driver involved in this incident cooperated with law enforcement officers at the scene and, as mentioned in the City of Houston News, "did not show signs of intoxication." After questioning, the driver was released. The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, with Sergeant D. Rose, and Officer M. Lozano at the helm, are leading the investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash.
