A tragic roadway incident claimed the life of a pedestrian last night in Volusia County, occurring along U.S. 1, just north of Burch Road. WFTV reported that the Florida Highway Patrol informed that the individual, whom officials are still working to identify, was struck by a Chevy Silverado while either walking or standing in the vehicle's direct path in the northbound lane.
Details provided by the authorities describe the driver of the Silverado as being unharmed and cooperative, having remained at the scene following the incident. The crash happened late at night, with the exact circumstances still under investigation. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was navigating the outside lane when the collision took place.
In a concurrent account, WESH adds that the crash occurred at approximately 10 p.m., and while the pickup truck driver came through the incident unscathed, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene; the Florida Highway Patrol has yet to release the identity of the deceased as the investigation continues.
The medical examiner's office is actively involved in confirming the identity of the deceased.
