Phoenix is gearing up for a sweltering week ahead with temperatures consistently hitting the triple digits, according to the latest weather update. The National Weather Service reports today's high is expected to soar to a sizzling 112 degrees under sunny skies, with an east southeast breeze shifting west and potentially gusting up to 20 mph.
Residents looking for reprieve during the night will find little comfort, as lows are only expected to dip to around 90 degrees. With the sun set, the west southwest wind should calm to 5 to 10 mph but could still reach gusts as high as 25 mph, offering a sporadic and inadequate respite from the persistent heat, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The forecast shows little change ahead. Friday will be very hot with a high of 109°F and light winds shifting west later. Nights will stay clear and warm, with a low of 86°F. From now through Tuesday, Phoenix can expect more sunny, hot days with highs between 107 and 109°F, and clear nights in the mid-80s. Light winds may offer a bit of relief, as stated by the National Weather Service.
However, a glimmer of change appears in the midweek forecast. "20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms," on Tuesday night and this probability slightly decreases on Wednesday, bringing a forecast with a 10 percent chance of rain and a "Mostly sunny, with a high near 105," as reported by the National Weather Service.
