Phoenix drivers, you're in for a relatively smooth weekend, but keep your eyes peeled for a few key construction updates. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there aren't any full freeway closures scheduled from July 18-21. ADOT announces some lane restrictions and a street closure you'll want to avoid to keep your travel time down.

Specifically, Loop 101 will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between 35th and 59th avenues starting from 10 p.m. Friday, lasting through to 10 p.m. Saturday. This is due to a widening project. If you're planning to travel through the area, ADOT advises allowing extra time and being prepared to safely merge. In addition, 51st Avenue will be entirely inaccessible in both directions near Loop 101 from Friday night to early Monday morning for bridge work. The westbound Loop 101 frontage road will also be closed between 35th and 51st avenues.

On the east side, the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Price Road is set to shut down from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday. This closure is also due to widening efforts. Drivers should consider using the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Alma School Road as an alternate route to avoid this interruption.

Another closure to note is Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard at Loop 101 (Pima Freeway), which will be closed in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is part of the consistent bridge work that's been occurring as part of the region's widening project. ADOT suggests taking alternative routes, and as a detour, traffic can use the Loop 101 frontage roads between Raintree Drive and Bell Road.

While these schedules are currently set, they're not etched in stone—any inclement weather or unforeseen factors could cause changes. Funding for many of these projects comes from regional voters' approval of Proposition 479, extending a dedicated half-cent tax to support future transportation improvements in the Phoenix area. For those looking to stay updated in real-time, ADOT reminds travelers to check AZ511.gov, the az511 app, or to call 511 for the latest highway conditions. Drive safely and plan accordingly to navigate around these weekend works effectively.
