Last weekend, Pierce County witnessed two fatal vehicle collisions that have left the community in mourning. Deputies were dispatched to two separate incidents, each with their own tragic outcomes.
The first occurred late last Friday, when a 42-year-old woman crashed into a guardrail on Forest Canyon Rd near Lake Tapps. Deputies responded to a single-vehicle collision at the 15800 block of Forest Canyon Rd around 11:15 pm, according to a report by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog. The collision was severe enough that upon arrival, the deputies pronounced the woman deceased at the scene. The vehicle had reportedly veered at high speed before impact, and traffic investigators are still piecing together what led to the crash.
A similarly grim scene unfolded last Saturday. A female driver, coming home after her shift, tragically struck an unidentified man sitting in the road. The incident took place at Lake Dr. SW and 188th Ave. SW. The driver, along with another individual who happened to be passing by, attempted to save the man's life. Despite their efforts and the quick arrival of Fire personnel who continued life-saving measures, the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had no identification on him at the time, and the absence of streetlights combined with his dark attire has been noted in the ongoing investigation. "The female driver that hit him was coming home from work and showed no signs of impairment," the Sheriff's Department blog states, highlighting that the driver remained on the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement.
The Sheriff's Department reminds residents to "drive safe, drive sober, and drive alert" to prevent such tragedies in the future.
