Commuters in Pittsburgh will need to adjust their travel plans as the Andy Warhol (Seventh Street) Bridge is set to close for scheduled inspections on two upcoming days. Announced by the Department of Public Works, the bridge will be off-limits from 6 a.m. on Monday, July 21, to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 25, and again from 6 a.m. on Monday, July 28, to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 1. As Pittsburgh gears up for a smooth flow of its daily 4,549 vehicles that usually traverse this artery, the ready detour will guide drivers using Fort Duquesne Boulevard, the Rachel Carson (Ninth Street) Bridge, and Isabella Street.
The routine inspection, crucial to ensuring the continued safety of Pittsburgh's numerous bridge-dependent travelers, will be handled by two local companies. STV of Pittsburgh and Sofis Company of Independence, PA, are bringing their expertise to examine the 1,061-foot bridge that connects Downtown to the North Shore over the Allegheny River. According to a press release from Allegheny County, during the bridge's last assessment, on May 5, 2023, it garnered a condition rating of 5, situating it within 'fair condition' according to the 0-9 scale used by the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
The anticipated closure dates and reroute information are available to the public on Allegheny County's website, where updates and future advisories will also be posted.
