Port Arthur resident Carl Sampson Solomon, 43, has been handed a sentence of 46 months in federal prison following a guilty plea for a firearms violation. The sentencing, handed down by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone yesterday put a convicted felon back behind bars for possessing a firearm, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.
Detailed by court documents, Solomon's legal troubles reignited on March 27, 2024, when a routine traffic stop on Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur took a turn. Solomon informed officers that he was carrying a firearm under the seat. A search led to the discovery of the weapon and a small amount of marijuana. A history check confirmed Solomon's five previous felony convictions and that he was on felony probation, both stipulations rendering firearm possession illegal under federal law, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Reflecting national efforts, Solomon's case falls under Operation Take Back America, a broad federal initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, and violent crime through a coordinated strategy engaging the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood programs.
The Port Arthur Police Department, coupled with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive, conducted the investigation leading to Solomon's recent sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn was responsible for the case's prosecution.
