Residents of Aloha experienced a moment of tension this past Thursday when an attempted carjacking occurred near 20295 SW Tualatin Valley Highway. The Washington County Sheriff's Office has reported an armed suspect, now identified as 33-year-old Jose Campos of Portland, allegedly assaulted a woman with a knife. According to the official statement, the 9-1-1 call came in at 5:06 p.m., sending deputies to the scene where they found the victim fortunately physically unharmed.
The swift response from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, assisted by a Beaverton Police Department K9 and alert community members, led to the capture of Campos. A local witness saw him attempting to evade the authorities by hiding nearby, and their prompt notification to deputies allowed them to quickly detain him without further incident, although the situation was fraught with the potential for further violence, given that the suspect was armed and had just committed an assault.
Upon his arrest, Campos faced a slew of charges, including robbery in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, attempted unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, menacing, and he was also found to be wanted on two outstanding warrants from Multnomah County. The Washington County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) dispatched detectives to delve deeper into the incident, ensuring a thorough investigation was underway.
