Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have announced the resignation of Jennifer Schroeder, the principal at Randolph Middle School, after having been suspended with pay since May 20, though specific reasons for either the suspension or the resignation have not been disclosed to the public. WCNC Charlotte reported that Schroeder's resignation took effect yesterday, and that retired principal Michael Turner will oversee operations as the interim principal throughout the summer and into the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The recent resignation comes on the heels of Jamie Brooks', former principal of Ardrey Kell High School, retirement post-suspension, which occurred around the same time and also without an issued explanation, these string of limited-information leave-takings have left parents and staff members questioning the district's transparency, especially when it comes to the handling of their children's educators. QC News communicated that parents were told, “our principal is away from campus at this time,” but details about the suspension itself were not forthcoming.
Turner is no stranger to the role of interim principal, having served in similar capacities in the past; in 2024, he took the helm at Hopewell High School after its principal was suspended and filled in at West Mecklenburg High School following a principal resignation in 2019. The consistency of his stewardship in times of administrative upheaval speaks to a reliability, that the district seems to lean on in these all-too-frequent occasions of abrupt leadership gaps, and, as reported by WCNC Charlotte, Turner's involvement may provide at least a temporary anchor for Randolph Middle School.
As for Schroeder, the haze that surrounds the circumstances of both her suspension and subsequent resignation leaves much to the space of speculation and inscrutable silence and while WBTV notes that officials have not revealed why she chose to step down, neither have they clarified the reasons behind the initial suspension, leaving stakeholders to navigate an incomplete narrative and to wonder what events transpired between May 20 and July 1 that led to these outcomes.
