The energy landscape in Illinois is receiving a significant boost as Pure Lithium Corporation, a next-gen battery tech company, has decided to shift its operations from Boston to Chicago. This move ties into the state's initiative to promote clean energy and manufacturing, with Governor JB Pritzker heralding the arrival of Pure Lithium as an addition to Illinois' expanding business and clean energy ecosystem. In an announcement detailed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Pure Lithium is set to invest $46 million in the transition, which is anticipated to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
Pure Lithium's choice for its relocation is partly influenced by the Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) program, providing the company with financial incentives for its pioneering lithium metal battery production aimed at markets including drones, defense, and electric vehicles. "I am excited to welcome the team at Pure Lithium to our state, where they'll be an excellent addition to the business landscape and burgeoning clean energy ecosystem," Governor Pritzker stated. The company's new facility is set to be operational this year in Chicago's Fulton Market district, cementing Pure Lithium's commitment to Illinois.
The strategic move will tap into Chicago's pool of skilled technicians and engineers necessary for Pure Lithium's shift from R&D to commercial production. Additionally, the proximity to Argonne National Laboratory will bolster collaborative efforts focused on scaling lithium metal anode production using recycled materials. This synergy was underscored by Emilie Bodoin, Founder and CEO of Pure Lithium, when she told the Illinois state news, "Our new facility in Chicago aligns with the company's long-term operational goals and growth strategy."
Under the REV Illinois program, Pure Lithium is eligible for incentives as the firm plans to contribute to the state's clean energy goals. As the State ramps up its clean energy production and manufacturing, it continues to draw major players in the industry. Illinois has been actively positioning itself as a hub for clean energy manufacturers by offering competitive incentives and access to a highly skilled workforce. "Through the REV Illinois program, the State is supporting companies that have a shared mission of bolstering manufacturing jobs in Illinois' clean energy economy," said DCEO Director Kristin Richards. Illinois continues to showcase its commitment to economic growth and clean energy advancements as it welcomes Pure Lithium to its business community.
With Pure Lithium's commitment to a $46 million investment and the creation of 50 new jobs, the company stands to play a prominent role in the state's manufacturing industry. This relocation is a testament to Illinois' growth strategy, aiming to attract investments and foster a burgeoning economy around clean energy. As noted by Intersect Illinois President and CEO Christy George, the move signifies Illinois's alluring package for clean energy enterprises looking to scale. The firm joins other manufacturers like Damera Corporation, Rivian, and Wieland North America, who have found a conducive environment for growth in Illinois.
