A 23-year-old woman is recovering after being assaulted in her home in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens. According to CBS New York, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. last Saturday when an unidentified man reportedly broke into her apartment and sexually assaulted her. Despite security measures at the building on 94th Avenue, the attacker was able to commit the assault and flee the scene, taking the victim’s bed sheets with him. She was later hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.
Residents have shared their concern following the incident. "I can't believe this. I can't. In my building. I'm in shock right now. I really am," Diana Henderson told CBS New York. Some tenants have called for enhanced security measures, including the installation of more surveillance cameras.
Authorities have not yet determined how the individual gained access to the building. The incident remains under investigation, with ongoing attention on building security and public safety.
