Boaters frequenting Gandy Boat Ramp in Tampa will soon navigate improved amenities. Beginning next Monday, renovations are set to commence on the popular ramps, targeting the dated floating docks and gangways for an upgrade, as mentioned in a statement from Hillsborough County. The improvements are expected to be declared complete by August 11.
The Gandy Boat Ramp, situated at 5108 W. Gandy Blvd., serves as a crucial launch point in the community, offering six lanes to set vessels to sea. Hillsborough County has committed to keeping at least four lanes accessible during the construction period, ensuring minimal disruption for local boaters. According to the county's announcement, while the ramps receive this facelift, no additional lanes will be constructed.
With an investment of $278,000, the project's funds have emerged from a shared pool of fishing and boater registration fees. Under Florida Statute 328.72, these fees contribute to the maintenance and operation of such nautical access points. Placing significance on infrastructure for the boating population reflects a judicious allocation of resources garnered from the very users of these facilities.
