The suspect involved, 34-year-old Leonardo Valdez of Sacramento, was quickly detained by responding officers shortly after 2:00 p.m. They found the victim, an adult male, who had suffered blunt-force trauma injuries, and transported him to an area hospital in critical condition. Originally arrested and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges related to the assault, Valdez now faces additional charges.

The Sacramento Police Department announced on Tuesday, that the victim succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased is withheld and will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after next-of-kin notifications.
