Westmoreland County residents are grappling with the unsettling aftermath of an explosion triggered by a device placed under a lawn tractor. This situation unfolded in Salem Township last Sunday evening. State Police Public Relations Officer Steve Limani, in a statement detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh, allayed public fears, stating, "We feel that the incident was contained specifically and isolated to that particular residence and victim."
The investigation's purview has since widened, incorporating both the ATF and the FBI, as announced by Trooper Limani. In pursuit of answers, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Reinforcing this call to action, Officer Limani explained in an interview with CBS News Pittsburgh, "If anybody has any information or cardinal knowledge specifically about the incident that took place, obviously with the limited amount of information that I've provided today, when we're talking to you, we'll be able to tell you if you have viable information."
Though the identity of the intended victim, cited by law enforcement sources as the suspect's former landlord, has been speculated, the State Police and Trooper Limani have not formally commented. Maintaining a tight lid on details, Trooper Limani expressed a commitment to preserving the integrity of the investigation, saying in a statement reported by WPXI, "I know the community, they want it and maybe to a certain extent they deserve it, however, by providing it there’s a chance I could hurt the investigation and the last thing I ever want to do is put people in jeopardy or create some kind of mistake on my end that prevented somebody from being arrested that did a horrific act." Meanwhile, the victim's condition remains undisclosed, though it has been confirmed they did not succumb to their injuries.
