In the aftermath of the July 4 floods that have left Kerr County in a state of emergency, local leaders are stepping up efforts to provide relief. Set to take place on July 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., District 9 Councilmember Misty Spears has spearheaded a blood drive, enlisting the help of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and Frost Bank, according to the City of San Antonio.
As described by an announcement on the official City of San Antonio website, the drive's location is the Frost Bank – District 9 Bloodmobile at 16500 San Pedro, 78232, where the community is urged to contribute blood. This effort comes at a critical time as local blood supplies have dramatically been impacted by the natural disaster.
"Flood victims in Kerr County are facing unimaginable loss," Councilmember Spears told the City of San Antonio website. "In moments like these, every act of care matters. Donating blood is a simple yet powerful way to give hope and healing to someone in crisis." This blood drive aims to provide immediate support for those whose lives have been upturned by the recent flood.
San Antonians can schedule appointments in advance, a move encouraged by the organizers to promote efficient service. Residents trying to accommodate walk-ups will also be served as space allows. Beginning at 9 a.m., those who rise to the occasion can enjoy complimentary cookies available until noon. Then, from noon to 2 p.m., paletas will be provided, with all refreshments courtesy of Frost Bank. The details for making an appointment are available on the official City of San Antonio website.
The hashtag #KerrUnited serves as a rallying point for the community, with residents called upon to stand in solidarity with their neighbors. According to Stridehealth.com, which the City of San Antonio website also references, "every pint of blood donated can help save up to three lives," demonstrating just how critical each donation could be in the flood's aftermath.
