A string of tragic incidents this past weekend has put San Antonio's motorcycle community on high alert, resulting in three fatalities from separate motorcycle crashes, KSAT reports. The circumstances behind each accident, ranging from racing gone awry to a crash into a truck, have shaken local motorcyclists and prompted calls for increased safety measures on the road.
On Saturday night, 20-year-old Nicholas Galindo was fatally ejected from his motorcycle while allegedly racing another biker on I-10 West, near UTSA Boulevard, as he collided with an 18-wheeler that was changing lanes at the same time, resulting in his death at the scene. The next evening witnessed 25-year-old Chandler Krueger's fatal attempt to speed through a red light at the intersection of Southwest Military Drive and Logwood Avenue, his motorcycle impacting a truck and a sedan, per KENS 5. A third rider, 50-year-old Wayne McBride, lost control of his motorcycle on I-35 North late Sunday night and succumbed to his injuries, a loss that further compounded the community's grief.
The nonprofit organization Fallen Riders, which supports motorcycle crash victims and their families, has been vocal about the weekend's events. "Respect the road, respect other drivers and riders," Jeanette Reyes of Fallen Riders conveyed the sentiment following the crashes, emphasizing the imperative of shared road respect as quoted by KSAT. The organization advocates for rider education and safety and has been instrumental in organizing memorial rides and safety events in light of such incidents.
Responding to the need for heightened awareness among motorcyclists, Caliente Harley-Davidson has scheduled a motorcycle safety meetup, which will include a moment of silence for the deceased riders and is expected to draw hundreds from the riding community on Tuesday night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., as the group regularly draws in a substantial crowd of about 300-400 people weekly some of whom had taken their rider safety class these meetings aim to foster a safer environment for the motorcycle community according to a statement from KENS 5.
