Authorities in San Bernardino County made a significant haul over the holiday weekend, seizing a hefty stash of fireworks deemed illegal and dangerous. The crackdown was part of the 'Red, White, and Safe' initiative, targeting unauthorized fireworks in several unincorporated areas, including Fontana, Rialto, and others. In a recent operation on the Fourth of July, law enforcement officers issued multiple citations and confiscated about 900 pounds of fireworks, according to an official statement by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
The Fontana Sheriff’s Station, bolstered by additional personnel deployed for the occasion, worked to actively patrol and respond to calls concerning the illicit use of fireworks. The joint force, including deputies from the San Bernardino County Fire Marshal’s Office, issued four administrative citations, fining individuals $1,250 per violation. This action to swiftly address the illegal activities was focused on maintaining public safety and ensuring residents could safely enjoy the holiday festivities.
During this enforcement operation, the teams sought to significantly reduce the danger posed by unauthorized fireworks, which carry a risk of injury and fire. In total, approximately $7,000 worth of illicit fireworks were taken off the streets.
