
On Saturday morning, the San Diego Police Department responded to a distress call from Oak Park, confirming a deadly shooting that left a man and a woman dead in what officials believe to be a murder/suicide. According to the San Diego Police Department's press release, the incident took place just before 10 a.m. at a residence on Timothy Drive, where a woman was found with a gunshot wound to her upper torso and a man was fatally wounded with a gunshot to the head in a separate room.
The San Diego Police Department, upon arrival, immediately attended to the woman. At the same time, the San Diego Fire and Rescue took over life-saving efforts, but ultimately, she too was pronounced dead on the scene. The victims have since been identified as Michelle Booker-Stewart, 51, and her husband Nathaniel Stewart, 57. Hoodline reports that homicide investigators are now leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Occurrences of domestic violence that escalate to such fatal outcomes have long been an area of concern, with this recent tragedy in Oak Park highlighting the severity and the devastating consequences of such disputes. Both individuals were black, in their 50s, and the community has been reassured that there is no further danger related to this isolated event.
The San Diego Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to step forward. In the words of the department's statement obtained by the San Diego Police Department's press release, "Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477."
