The City Heights Swim Center in San Diego is making a splash with expanded free swim opportunities and fitness programs, thanks to a substantial grant from Price Philanthropies Foundation. The donation, which amounts to $335,200, was given the green light by the San Diego City Council last week, reported the City of San Diego. This funding boost means swimmers can enjoy seven days of access instead of the previous five, with the bonus of eliminated entrance fees during the summer.
Residents in the City Heights area, particularly the youth, are set to benefit from this funding, as stated by Jennette Lawrence Shay, Chief Operating Officer for Price Philanthropies, who emphasized the importance of community access to vital resources like pools and recreation amidst the current challenging times. The grant will provide a multiplicity of enhanced amenities including more lifeguard services, diverse water fitness classes, and engaging youth camps, while also footing the bill for these improvements will be primarily for staff charges related to amplified services being ushered in at the City Heights Swim Center.
Andy Field, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, highlighted the significance of aquatic access, with swimming lessons and drowning prevention as critical components, asserting that "This partnership with Price Philanthropies is making it possible for even more young San Diegans to be able to take advantage of these life-saving programs while enjoying the pool," according to the City of San Diego. The funding is expected to support an engagement of around 1,000 water fitness enthusiasts, 3,000 adults in lap and recreational swimming, and 7,170 children partaking in aquatic activities over the next year.
