
Early this morning, San Francisco residents awoke to the news of a fire in the SoMa neighborhood. The San Francisco Fire Department responded to a 1-alarm structure fire on the 700 block of Natoma Street. Crews dispatched to the scene encountered flames in the rear of a building, as reported in a social media post by the SFFD Public Information Office. At the initial stage of the fire, no injuries were reported, and the public was urged to avoid Natoma, between 8th and 9th Streets, due to the presence of emergency vehicles.

The situation quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire, prompting the fire department to block off Minna Street between the same blocks. The SFFD Public Information Office updated the status of the fire at 4:58 AM, indicating the severity and the extended area affected. The department's swift action led to the containment of the fire on both sides of the building at 5:21 AM on Minna and Natoma Streets. Nevertheless, the incident has resulted in the displacement of 10 persons from Minna Street, as confirmed by the SFFDPIO's update.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the authorities have not disclosed details surrounding the origins and potential damages. Meanwhile, those living or working in the area are still advised to steer clear of the impacted streets to allow clean-up crews and investigators to perform their duties unhindered.
