
Early this morning, a harrowing incident was witnessed on the streets of Pittsburgh's South Oakland area, where a scooter rider collided with an SUV, sustaining critical injuries. The crash, reported by WPXI, occurred at the intersection of Bates Street and 2nd Avenue shortly before 5:30 a.m. Authorities confirmed that the man on the scooter, ignoring the red light, struck the side of the SUV.
According to details released by Pittsburgh Public Safety and cited by CBS News Pittsburgh, the man, who was not wearing a helmet at the critical time of the crash, was transported to the hospital in a critical state. Failing to observe the stop at a red light, the rider's scooter was found heavily damaged at the scene by first responders, which included police, EMS, and fire units summoned around 5:45 a.m.
The SUV driver, having been involved in the crash, cooperated with law enforcement, remaining on scene and engaging with the police in their investigation.
