In a move that marks the latest transition within the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Scott E. Bradford has taken the oath of office to become the United States Attorney for the District of Oregon. With his induction into office by U.S. Circuit Court Judge Danielle J. Forrest this past Monday, Bradford steps into a role overseeing an office responsible for the legal proceedings across a diverse landscape hosting four million people and nine federally recognized Tribes.

Bradford's appointment by Attorney General Pamela Bondi on Monday fills the pivotal position on an interim basis. The District of Oregon, with a main office in Portland and branches in Eugene and Medford, encompasses an expansive geography where close to half the state's population resides. This region, with a footprint of over 98,000 square miles, now looks to Bradford to guide the prosecutorial efforts of around a hundred employees.

The new U.S. Attorney comes to the post with a substantial track record. Bradford joined the Department of Justice back in 2007 through the Attorney General Honors Program, making his mark as an Assistant United States Attorney by 2009. "I am honored to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon and thank Attorney General Bondi for placing her trust in me. It is a privilege to lead this great office, serving alongside such dedicated public servants. I look forward to working with our federal, state, and local partners to protect the public and defend the interests of the United States," Bradford expressed in a statement.

Bradford’s credentials are extensive—the 18-year Justice Department veteran has helmed multiple units within the organization, including the White Collar and the Economic, National Security, and Cyber Crimes units. Furthermore, Bradford's recent stint as the Acting Chief of the Counterintelligence and Export Control Section in Washington, D.C., underscores the depth of experience he brings to the Oregon office. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law. His academic and professional history, combined with his leadership roles, suggests that Bradford is poised to tackle the responsibilities awaiting him in Oregon's legal landscape.
