Memphis authorities are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a car theft and potential kidnapping at a local gas station, with circumstances escalating as the same individual purportedly returned to commit another crime. According to Action News 5, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) has reported an incident that occurred Thursday night when a mother found her vehicle, which she left running, stolen from the parking lot of Lion Mart on Winchester Road with her child inside.

The child was later found unharmed three blocks away, moments after the theft around 10:50 p.m., but the suspect remains at large. Surveillance footage captured the suspect wearing a light-colored zip-up jacket with designs, black pants, and black and grey Nike tennis shoes. In an account obtained by WREG, no arrest has been made despite video evidence of the suspect driving off with the victim’s vehicle.

In a striking turn of events, the accused individual returned to the scene less than 24 hours after the initial crime. "FOX13 crews were there speaking with an employee about a kidnapping and car theft that happened. Then, an employee told FOX13 that the same suspect came back to the same location and was inside the store while we were there," stated the report from FOX13 Memphis. Employees attempted to detain the suspect by locking the doors, but he managed to escape, possibly through a back exit. The suspect was described as having dreadlocks and a slim build.
