A second suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at a convenience store on Northborough Drive in May. Carnell Anderson, a 16-year-old male, faces murder charges for the death of 16-year-old Davion Elzy. As reported by the City of Houston News, the release of Anderson's identity and photo was sanctioned by a court order from a district judge due to his status as a juvenile.
Another person, Cameron Ray, age 19, has also been indicted on murder charges by the 496th State District Court. Ray is not currently in custody. The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, led by Sergeant C. Lamont and Detective A. Herrera, has actively been seeking to track down both suspects. They are urging anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity for those who choose to speak to Crime Stoppers.
The tragic incident unfolded in the parking lot of the convenience store at 13360 Northborough Drive around 3:35 p.m. on the afternoon of May 11. When HPD officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Elzy, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead. According to statements given to authorities, further investigation pointed to both Ray and Anderson as suspects in the case, leading to their subsequent charges.
The court has taken the rare step of approving the release of a minor’s identity, with a judge from the 313th District Court issuing the order. Anyone with information can contact the HPD Homicide Division or give tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
