Sheriff Michael R. Hodges, Jr., disclosed the promotion of Deputy Bryar Smith to the rank of Detective within the department. Detective Smith, who formerly operated in the Patrol Division and was an active member of the Special Operations Response Team, is set to transition to more investigatory duties, as per the official Sevier County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
With this new title, Detective Smith's primary responsibility involves delving into cases linked to overdoses, as part of the Criminal Investigations Division's effort to pinpoint those distributing deadly narcotics. According to the statement, this push to investigate overdose-related incidents aims to bring to justice those supplying illegal substances. However, the department announced that the detective would diligently handle other general assignment cases as they arise.
"Detective Smith has a genuine heart for the community he serves, and we are confident he will pursue every investigation with diligence and integrity," commended the Sheriff's Office in their statement. Their endorsement comes with an acknowledgment of Smith's dedication to serving the community and tackling drug-related crimes head-on.
