Last Friday, July 18, a preliminary hearing in the case against Leo Bearden was conducted in General Sessions Court Division 13, where probable cause was determined, the Shelby County District Attorney's Office reports. As per a social media post from the office, Bearden, who faces charges for the attempted first-degree murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, will see his case move to state court following the findings.
The victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg which resulted in surgery and a four-day hospital stay, continues to grapple with recovery, reliant on crutches, engaged in physical therapy, and unable to return to work. Reflecting the severity of the offense, Bearden’s bond has been set at $200,000. The post from the District Attorney's Office emphasizes their stance on accountability and community safety with hashtags like #victimsfirst, #offendersaccountable, and #safershelbycounty.
The emphasis on victim support is clear, as the social media post mentions the continued challenges faced by the victim post-incident.
