A tragic morning unfolded in Frederick County as Maryland State Police reported a fatal single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a six-month-old infant. In the unfortunate incident, two additional passengers, a three-year-old boy and a 26-year-old woman, were injured and transported to The Johns Hopkins Hospital for medical care. The incident occurred on the 12000 block of Woodsboro Pike and has prompted an ongoing investigation by authorities.
According to the details shared by the Maryland State Police, the crash took place around 10:53 a.m. this morning when a Dodge Durango, for reasons not yet clear, collided with a telephone pole before coming to a halt against a residence, which was unoccupied at the time. The driver of the vehicle emerged without injuries, and impairment is not currently believed to be a contributory factor in the mishap.
The aftermath of the collision elicited a swift response from emergency services, where the infant was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Sadly, the child succumbed to the injuries sustained. The closed roadway and detours put in place by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration indicate the severity of the accident scene.
The investigation is far from over, with the Maryland State Police Crash Team taking the lead.
