A reported assault with a weapon on Independence Day has led to the arrest of a 59-year-old Snohomish resident, according to the Snohomish Police Department. In a post on their official social media channel, the department detailed how deputies responded to the 1400 block of Weaver Way at around 10:40 pm following reports of an individual aiming and discharging a firearm in the public space.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found multiple bullet casings on the ground, evidence of the reported gunfire. The investigation revealed that prior to firing the weapon, the suspect had been involved in a verbal altercation with a group of people. "Deputies arrives on scene and located multiple bullet casings on the ground," stated the Snohomish Police Department post.
Authorities were able to recover the firearm used in the incident and arrest the individual responsible, who is now in custody at the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Jail. The quick response of the deputies was commended, with the police post highlighting the effectiveness of the officers involved: "Great work by all involved."
The motivations behind the suspect's decision to discharge the firearm and the specifics of the verbal dispute that precipitated the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
