Yesterday, a man suffering from a gunshot wound crashed his vehicle into a Sonoma County Sheriff's Deputy's patrol car, leading to an investigation. The deputy, assigned to the Sonoma Valley Substation, was at the intersection of West Napa Street and Riverside Drive around 7:05 PM when the collision occurred.
Upon impact, the deputy immediately jumped into action to aid the injured civilian driver and discovered him to be in critical condition from a gunshot injury, as per the Sonoma Sheriff's Office. Officers on the scene quickly responded by applying a tourniquet, but despite their efforts and the swift airlift to a hospital, the gunshot victim did not survive.
The incident, while isolated, drew a quick response from the Sheriff's Office, with Violent Crime Detectives now leading the charge to piece together what happened before the vehicle accident and the subsequent death of the driver. A handgun found at the scene, on the driver, is a crucial piece of evidence that detectives are examining closely.
