Baltimore residents in search of an easy Caribbean escape received some sunny news this week as Southwest Airlines announced the addition of nonstop flights from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The service is scheduled to start on February 7, 2026, offering Marylanders a direct connection to the tropical destination. According to a report by Eye on Annapolis, the new route is part of Southwest's expansion efforts and places BWI Marshall as one of only two initial airports to offer this direct route.

The flights, which are now on sale, vary in price from $300 to almost $700 for a single nonstop leg of the journey, as WBAL-TV reported. This connection further cements BWI's status as a critical hub for the region. Currently, the airport boasts more than 300 daily nonstop departures to approximately 90 destinations and supports an economic impact that surpasses $11.3 billion, alongside sustaining over 107,000 jobs in Maryland and the surrounding area.

In tandem with the announcement of new flights, BWI Marshall is also undergoing significant upgrades. The Concourse A/B Connector and Baggage Handling System project stands as the airport's most ambitious capital project to date. Upon completion, travelers can expect an improved experience, including efficient baggage handling, better gate seating, and new amenities.
